Play movies on an iPod Photo.

Literally speaking iPod Photo can’t play movies. In order to play a movie on an iPod Photo, you need to export frames of a movie, import them to the iPod and playing them manually by click wheeling through the images.

By viewing photos in slideshow mode while the audio tracks plays in the background you can watch movies on your iPod Photo. You need to synchronize between the audio and an image. Video output depends on how accurate your index finger is.

Requirements to play movies on an iPod Photo are QuickTime Pro, iTunes, and an iPod photo. Please make sure that QuickTime Pro and iTunes are properly installed on your computer before performing these actions.

These instructions work on both Windows and Mac PC’s. Instructions for Windows and Mac PC’s are quite different. Follow the instructions according to your operating system by clicking the following logos:



You need to perform four simple steps to play movies on your iPod Photo for Windows OS:

Step 1: Exporting Sound:
Step 2: Exporting Movie as frames:
Step 3: Transfer photos from PC to iPod photo:
Step 4: Play Movie on your iPod Photo:


Step 1: Exporting Sound:
  • Download the movie to your local system.
  • Open the downloaded movie using QuickTime.

    • Note: You can use other applications that can export sound and frames.
  • When the movie opens up in QuickTime, Click on File.
  • Click Export.

  • "Save exported file as", window will open. Go to Export, click the down arrow and select Movie to WAV.
  • Click Options.

  • Choose Rate as 44 kHz in Sound Settings window.
  • Select "16 bit" and "Stereo" radio buttons.
  • Click OK.

  • Exporting the sound has been done successfully!
  • Import the exported sound in to iTunes.
  • Now export the same sound to the iPod.
Step 2: Exporting Movie as frames:
  • Downloaded frame rate of the movie was 15 frames per second: export the same in QuickTime also.
  • Open the downloaded movie using QuickTime.

  • When the movie opens up in QuickTime, Click on File.
  • Click Export.

  • "Save exported file as", window will open. Go to Export, click the down arrow and select Movie to Image Sequence.
  • Click Options.

  • Choose JPEG as format in Export Image Sequence Settings window.
  • Type 15 in the Frames per second block.
  • Click Options.

  • Select Medium for quality in JPEC Options window.
  • Click OK.

  • Exporting frames to the new folder is done successfully!
    Note:
    Make sure that all frames rely on one spot. The process of exporting movies as  frames takes some time. Please be patient.
Step 3: Transfer photos from PC to iPod photo:
  • Use iTunes to transfer frames from your PC to iPod Photo.
  • Click Edit from iTunes Menu.
  • Click Preferences.

  • Select iPod tab.
  • Select Photos sub tab.

  • Check “Synchronize photos from” check box.
  • Check “Copy all photos” radio button.
  • Select “Choose folder” option.
  • Select the folder where you saved all the frames.
  • Click OK.

    • Note: iTunes alter the images before sending to the iPod Photo. Please be patient as this will take some time.
Step 4: Play Movie on your iPod Photo:
Disconnect the iPod after photos are transferred to the iPod Photo.
To listen Sound while playing the Movie:
  • Click Music.
  • Click Songs.
  • Select the sound file which you exported.
  • Press Play.

To Play the Movie:
  • Click Menu.
  • Click Photos.
  • Click Photo Library.
  • Now, iPod Photo start to display thumbnails according to the soundtrack.
  • If you want to play the file which you chose then click wheel to a photo and press “T”.

Enjoy the Movie.

Exporting Sound:

  • Open the downloaded movie using QuickTime.

  • Click Options.

  • Import the exported sound in to iTunes.
  • Now export the sound to the iPod.
Exporting Movie as frames:

  • "Save exported file as.." window will open, Go to Export and click on the down arrow.

  • Choose Export as Movie to Image Sequence.
  • Click Options.

  • In Export Image Sequence
  • Choose JPEG in Format Settings window.
  • Type no 15 in the frames per second block.
  • Check "Insert space before number" checkbox.
  • Click Options.
  • Select Best for quality in JPEC Options window.
  • Click OK.

  • Export these frames to a new folder.
    Note:

Transfer photos from PC to iPod photo:
  • Use iTunes to transfer photos from your PC to iPod Photo.
  • Click Edit from iTunes Menu.
  • Click Preferences.

  • Check “Copy all photos” radio button.
  • Select “Choose folder” option by clicking the down arrow.
