How to change the root password on Ubuntu

Never get hacked!





By default, Ubuntu has no set password for the root user. To gain access, you have to type in your own user password. This is the password you set for the first user while installing Ubuntu.

To manually change or set a password for the root user, navigate to the shell command prompt:
  1. Click Applicatons -> Accessories. Click Terminal.

  2. A new window appears with a prompt.  Key in "sudo passwd".
  3. System will prompt you to enter the new root password twice.  Now, you are done with your new root password.
