Spy Sweeper: "Registry error" in Internet Explorer 7.

While installing the Internet Explorer 7 without disabling the Spy Sweeper Hijack shield, you will receive a Registry error. To fix this issue, you need to disable and then re-enable the Spy Sweeper Hijack shield.

If you are installing Internet Explorer 7, it will attempt to modify the registry value:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Default_Page_URL

If you installed Spy Sweeper 5.0 Hijack Shield on your machine then it will reject registry modifications and fail to install Internet Explorer 7. The Internet Explorer 7 application attempts to make this modification as Update.exe

However, if you want to install Internet Explorer 7, you must have to disable and then re-enable the Hijack shield in Spy Sweeper after the installation is complete.

Disable the Hijack shield. Let me walk you through the changes.

  Version 5.0

  Version 4.5

Version 5.0:
  • Go to Shields tab in Spy Sweeper.
  • Click Internet Explorer Hijack Shield.
  • Uncheck the box.

Version 4.5:
  • Go to Shields tab in Spy Sweeper.
  • Click Internet Explorer tab.

  • Disable Internet Explorer Hijack Shield.
Well done! Internet Explorer 7 is now ready to install on your machine!

Remember!
After Internet Explorer 7 installation is complete re-enable the Hijack Shield.
