Xbox Live Error message: “ DNS not found (direct connection) 5335”.

When you try to connect your Xbox console directly to your modem via Xbox Live then you will receive this error message. To fix this issue, follow the Mac Address Spoofing method or troubleshoot the DNS server.

Follow the options in the order as suggested.

Note: First follow the Mac Address Spoofing instructions. If this does not work, then proceed to troubleshoot your DNS server.









Mac Address Spoofing
Personal Computer:

Performing Mac Address spoofing on a personal computer:

Note: The first three steps have to be performed online.
  1. Click Start > Run > type cmd in the Open box > OK.

  2. Type ipconfig/all. If this does not work,type winipcfg.

  3. Enter your computer’s MAC Address that is listed in Physical Address into Xbox console.

    Note
    :Avoid using addresses that begins with 44.

  4. Turn off and then turn on your Xbox console.

  5. On the Connect Status screen, select Settings > Press A button.

  6. Select MAC Address.

  7. Enter the information in Physical Address. Do not include dashes.
Macintosh

To get an Ethernet address on an Apple Macintosh computer:

Note: Follow the instructions depending upon the operating system version installed on your Macintosh computer.
  1. On the Apple menu, open Control Panel > Click TCP/IP.

  2. Click User Mode on the Edit menu.

  3. Select Advance radio button > click OK.

  4. Click the Info button in the lower left corner of the TCP/IP Control Panel. Your computer’s hardware address (MAC) is the number listed in Hardware Address.
Note: These steps are applicable to Apple OSX or Windows operating system only.Contact your computer manufacturer for other
         OS.


Power-Cycling the Modem

You must Power-cycle your modem after performing Mac Address spoofing. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Switch-Off your modem, wait three minutes, and then turns it back on. If your modem doesn’t have an On/Off switch, you must unplug the power supply to the modem to turn it Off and then plug it back to turn it On.

  2. Try to connect again.
    If your problem persists, proceed to troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting

This error occurs if there is a problem with ISP's DNS servers.

  1. Enter DNS server information in the Network Settings of the Xbox dashboard. Confirm that it matches the information provided by your ISP.

  2. Confirm if your DNS server information in the Xbox dashboard is correct. Contact ISP to if their DNS server address is changed.

  3. Set DNS settings in the Xbox dashboard to Automatic.

  4. Verify DNS server status.
