Windows Vista error message: "A disk read error has occurred. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart."
You may get an error message saying, “A disk read error has occurred. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart” when you try to install an additional operating system on a computer that is running Windows Vista.
Windows Vista does not allow any other previous version of Windows to be installed on the computer. During setup process the early version of windows tries to overwrite the boot sector of Windows Vista installed on a primary partition, thus leading to the error message.
Install Windows Vista on a new partition after installing the earlier version of Windows on the primary boot partition.
You have to install earliest version of Windows first and then install the later versions in the order of release. Install the operating system in the order as mentioned below to resolve this error message.
Note: You have to install each operating system according to the standard installation procedure and install each version in its own partition.
