Windows Vista Error Message:"This computer does not have enough space for temporary files.

When trying to upgrade a computer to Windows Vista, you receive the following error message:"This computer does not have enough space for temporary files. Windows installation needs at least size megabytes (MB) of space on any partition for temporary files. To install Windows, free enough space and restart the installation. Error code 0x80070103". Follow the instructions in this article and you’ll be able to solve the issue.

If the active partition on the computer is hidden partition, this issue occurs as the Windows Vista Setup program cannot locate it while putting certain files on the active partition.

To resolve this problem, set the active partition to a partition type that is not hidden.

For example, to set the active partition to type 0x7, here's what to do :

  • To start the computer, Use the Windows Vista DVD

  • when Windows Vista installation screen appears, click Next > Install Now

  • Press SHIFT+F10 to open a command prompt

  • At the command prompt type diskpart . Press  ENTER

  • Type select disk 0 . Press ENTER

  • Type select partition 1 . Press ENTER

  • Type detail partition . Press ENTER

  • Type select volume 0. Press ENTER

  • Type attributes volume clear hidden . Press ENTER

  • Type detail volume and then press ENTER. Verify that Hidden: No is displayed

  • Type exit and then press ENTER to exit the Diskpart tool

  • Type exit and then press ENTER to exit the command prompt

  • Restart the computer by using the original operating system and then start the Windows Vista installation
