How to re-create your iTunes Library

Few simple steps to get your iTunes library and playlists re-created


1. Quit iTunes.
2. Locate your iTunes folder.
  • If you are Mac OX user, you will find the iTunes folder in the location:
    Users/Username/Music
  • If you are a Microsoft Windows, you will find the iTunes folder in the location:
    • Open My Computer and double click on Local Disk C:

    • Double click on Documents and Settings.

    • Double click on User name and open My Documents.

    • You will get My Music there. Double click and open it. You can locate iTunes here.


  • And if you are a Vista user, the iTunes folder is stored in:
    Users\username\Music
3. Open your iTunes folder and you will find iTunes Music Library.xml in it.

               
4. Now drag the iTunes Music Library.xml to the Desktop.
5. Now lets delete the following file from your iTunes folder.
  • For Mac OS X users: iTunes Library (in versions of iTunes prior to 4.9 this was called "iTunes 4 Music Library").
  • Microsoft Windows: iTunes Library.itl (in versions of iTunes prior to 4.9 this was called "iTunes 4 Music Library.itl")
6. Now open iTunes.
7. Click File and choose import. Lets not add any music into iTunes at this point.
8. Navigate to the iTunes Music Library.xml file on the desktop.
9. Now click
  • Mac users: Choose
  • Windows users: Open.
