Converting movies (DVD) to view on iPod (video)

Converting video files to play on the iPod is not a herculean task! Read on and you’ll get a hang of how to go about it.

Saw the movie ‘Babel’ last night at my friend’s house and found it to be really interesting. I wanted to bring the DVD home to show it to my girl friend, as she is big fan of Brad Pitt but could not. Well! Suddenly Pete said that I can actually use the iTunes software to convert video files and play them on my iPod. And guess what? I did it! I can now watch any movie I like….anytime.

Did you know that iPod can play the following video formats?
  • H.264
File formats: .m4v, .mp4, and .mov
Video: Up to 768 kbits/sec, 320 x 240, 30 frames per second (fps), Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3.
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 kbits/sec, 48 Khz, and stereo audio.

  • MPEG-4
File formats: .m4v, .mp4, and .mov
      Video: Up to 2.5 Mbits/sec, 480 x 480, 30 fps, Simple Profile.
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 kbits/sec, 48 Khz, stereo audio.

This conversion process usually takes a very long time. Like, a couple of minute video might take 10 minutes or so. Maybe you could tie up some other pending work in the meantime. And….when you return you have this nice video waiting for you and your girlfriend. Here is an article on  converting movies (DVD) to view on iPod (video)

Wait a sec! I also came across Videora tool that helps convert DVD formats. Click and you’ll be there….
