Can my Phone be Infected with a Virus from a PC if I use Nokia PC Suite for my Nokia N70 device?

When you use Nokia PC Suite 5.05 Application Installer with your Nokia phone there is some information you need to be aware of. Read on.....
Nokia Application Installer allows you to upload and install Java applications from your PC or Laptop Computer to your phone. When you install compatible Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) applications to your phone you add additional functionality to your phone, including (for example):
  • New Games
  • Stock Portfolio Manager
  • World Clock
  • Currency Converter
You can use Nokia Application Installer to install applications you download to your PC for the Internet (including those downloaded from your service provider's Web site). Or,  you can install application you program yourself (using the appropriate Java software developer's toolkit).

Important: Only download and install software from sources you trust. Please take the necessary precautions to protect against viruses and other harmful software. Nokia Application Installer uses digital signatures and certificates during software installation. Do not install an application if Nokia Application Installer displays a security warning about the software you're trying to install.


Install an application

  1.  Establish a connection between your phone and PC.
  2.  Launch Nokia Application Installer.
  3. Click the Install button (or select Install from the File menu).
  4. Locate and select the .jad file saved on your PC, the click Install.
  5. Observe the progress indicator as the application is installed. Click OK to complete the installation process.
  6. Erase an application
Your phone has a limited amount of memory for Java applications. You may need to erase old or unused applications to make memory available for new applications.

To erase an existing Java application:

  1. Press Menu 11-1 (Applications > Select application).
  2. Scroll to the application you wish to erase, then press Options.
  3. Scroll to "Erase", then press Select.
  4. Press OK to complete the process.
