Cannot Send E-mail messages with VersaMail 3.x on Treo 650.

Go through the article to resolve the problem of sending email with Versa mail on Treo 650.

You may come across this issue with two main reasons which can be easily resolved.
  • The outbound email server may stop your mail through. Because the server thinks that your email is SPAM.To resolve the issue check the section on Outgoing Mail Server issues.

  •  You might have entered some of the information incorrectly in your setup so you have to check for types and verify the settings with your ISP or carrier.

Outgoing Mail Server Issues:

We come across 3 kinds of issues here:

Does your ISP prevent sending mails?

The ISP prevents sending mails for the following cases:

  1. You may have connected your smart phone to an IP address which your ISP’s email server does not recognize, so to stop it from thinking that you are a SPAMmer, you need to authenticate yourself.

  2. You may use another Outgoing (SMTP) Server furnished by your mobile service provider expressly for this purpose.
Note: Expect the AT&T, all mobile service providers offer an Outgoing (SMTP) Server to get around problems with sending email. Plug in the new Outgoing (SMTP) Server name, a username and password and off you go.
  3. Contact your mobile service provider, and check out whether you can use their Outgoing (SMTP) Server to send SMTP emails.
Note: Keep your email service provider's server as the Incoming (POP) server; there is no need to change this.
Does your mobile service provider prevent you from sending emails from a different server?

Sometimes the mobile service providers do not allow users to send email from a connection other than their own

Contact your mobile service provider, and find out if you can use the same  connection to send SMTP emails. If you can, enter this information as the incoming server; keep your email service provider's server as the outgoing server.

Does your mail server require SMTP authentication?

SMTP authentication is for security issues so your email service provider may require a username and password to be entered when you send email. This helps ensure security and reduces spam.

Follow these steps to add your outgoing username and password:
  1. In VersaMail, open the Menus.

  2. From the Accounts menu > Select Account Setup.

  3. Highlight the email account you want to check, > Select Edit.

  4. Depending on your version of VersaMail, you may have to select the Next button several times to get to the Advanced settings.

  5. When you see an option for ESMTP (may appear as "Use authentication (ESMTP)" or "My server requires authentication (ESMTP)"),check the box next to this option.

  6. Enter the outgoing username and password for ESMTP.

Now  you can send an e-mail message with VersaMail 3.x on my Treo 650.
