Configure Gmail Account on Moto Q

Setting up Gmail Account on Moto Q

Getting your emails from gmail onto your Moto Q is easy. See how this is possible!

You can configure your Moto Q phone to read and send email through your Gmail account.  This doesn't mean that you can't use Gmail on the web, you can use both by configuring it to leave a copy of your email on the web.

Before you start configuring your Moto Q phone, ensure the POP access in your Gmail is turned on.  To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Log on to your web-based Gmail account.
  2. Click on Settings which is on the top right corner.

  3. Click on Forwarding and POP and choose one of the below appropriately:
    • If you click on Enable POP for all mail, it will download all the existing emails that you have received before.
    • If you click on Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on, it will download the emails which would come in from now.
  4. Click on the drop down and select option "keep Gmail's copy in the inbox" to leave a copy in your web gmail account.
  5. Click Save Changes and sign out from your Gmail account.

Now, on your Moto Q phone just follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Press the left soft key to Start.
2. Navigate to messaging and press Select.
3. On the messaging screen, select an email account. (Outook E-Mail has been taken as an example here).
4. Press the right soft key to choose Menu. Navigate to Options and select it.
5. Navigate to New Account and select it.
6. Enter the details appropriately on the displayed screen.  Check the "Attempt to obtain e-mail settings..." box and click Next to continue.
7. The Moto Q phone will attempt to connect and get settings for Gmail automatically.  You should see this screen if the connection is successful.  Select Next to proceed.
8. If Moto Q hasn't suffixed @gmail.com at the end, go ahead and enter it.  Leave the Domain name empty. Check the Save Password check box to Save the entered password.  Select Next.
9. Check whether the following settings displayed in this screen matches with your Moto Q screen.  If not make the necessary changes and select Next.
  • Server type: POP3
  • Account name: Gmail
  • Network: The Internet

10. Ensure you have the following server settings:
  • Incoming Server: pop.gmail.com:995
  • Uncheck Require SSL connection check box
  • Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com:465
  • Check Outgoing server requires authentication check box

11. On the next screen, choose the number of days of mail and maximum size of the message that needs to be downloaded onto your Moto Q.  Select Next to proceed.
12. If you want your phone to auto-retrieve mail from your Gmail account, select your preference and select Next.
13. You should see a message saying that your setup is complete.  Select Finish.
14. On confirmation to download email now, choose Yes to download your email.
