Palm '1316 Error' or '1714 Unable to Remove the older version of the Palm Desktop' Error Message

This error message can appear when you install the Palm Desktop software. It occurs after you delete an older version of Palm Desktop but the registry entries were not completely removed, causing installation problems with the new Palm Desktop.

You need to download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from Microsoft to resolve the installation issue.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to your computer from Microsoft Support article 290301.
Run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility file you downloaded.
The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will create a folder that is specified below:
- Program Files\Windows Installer Clean Up

Open the folder. You will find an application called Msicuu.exe.
Run the Msicuu.exe application.
You will see window listing various third party applications.
Select Palm Desktop in the window and click on REMOVE.
The Utility will remove all the registry entries of Palm Desktop from your desktop computer.
Restart your computer.
Install the new Palm Desktop software from your handheld's installation CD or click here to download Palm Desktop.
