iPhone Fundamentals: Volume adjustments

You can adjust volume while listening to music or while watching movies on your iPhone.

If you are listening to the songs or watching movies on your iPhone, the buttons on the left side of the iPhone acts as the audio volume control.  These buttons actually control the volume of the ringtone, alerts and other sound effects of the iPhone.

To adjust the volume,

  • Flip the Ring/Silent switch between the ring and silent modes.
  • If your iPhone is set to ring,
    • It plays all the sounds
  • If it is set to silent mode,
    • It doesn't play any sound or alert.
    • Alarm that is set using clock will sound.
    • By default the phone vibrates when a call comes in.
If your iPhone is set to ring mode, you can instantly put an incoming call to silent mode by pressing the Sleep/Wake button (on the top of the iPhone) or the volume button once.  Press the Sleep/Wake button for the second time to reject the call and send it to voicemail.
