How to Update and Restore iPhone Software

Check out the steps given here to update and restore your iPhone software.


When you restore the iPhone software, iPhone gets into its original state. You should try to update the iPhone so that you can use the latest software.

Updating iPhone software: If you update your iPhone software, the software is updated but your settings and songs are not affected.

Restore iPhone software: If you restore your iPhone software all data is erased including songs, videos, contacts, photos, calendar information, and any other data. All iPhone settings are restored to their original state.

Follow the steps given below to update or Restore your iPhone software.
Make sure that you have an Internet connection and have the latest version of iTunes.

  1. Connect iPhone to your computer.
  2. In iTunes, select iPhone in the Source pane and click the Summary tab.
  3. Click Check for Update.
  4. If you just want to install the latest version of the software, click on Update
  5. If you want to Restore click on Restore. Clicking on Restore, will erase all your data and will bring the iPhone to original settings
  6. Follow the onscreen instructions thereafter.
