Troubleshoot HotSync under Windows XP

Learn how to troubleshoot HotSync under Windows XP. Go on! read this piece.

Windows XP
presents exclusive scenarios for many applications, including the synchronization software for palm devices (HotSync Manager). Occasionally, it takes a little more time to get it working correctly.

Follow these guide lines to locate if "Palm OS Handheld Device" or "Handspring Handheld" is causing HotSync difficulties.

  • Press Start.
  • Right Click on My Computer icon.
  • Choose Properties from the pop-up menu.
  • Press Hardware key the System Properties window.
  • Press Device Manager knob.
  • You may see a message for Palm OS Handheld Devices, or Handspring Handheld in the table. This item should not be there unless your computer is actively connecting with your handheld via USB (i.e. you are running a HotSync operation at that moment).
  • If you spot this message, Press the plus sign [+] to enlarge the message.
  • You should see Palm USB, or Handspring USB, listed below Palm OS Handheld Devices or Handspring Handheld.
  • Right Cick on the USB item, and select Uninstall from the menu that is displayed.
  • A confirmation window will appear. Click OK.
  • Try and Run a HotSync operation.
  • If it fails(especially due to lack of time), try the HotSync operation once more.
