HotSync Manager and Palm Desktop Versions are Different.

Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager: Set up together, but independent applications.


Note:Although Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager work together, when you set up synchronization from your hand set's software CD or download the software from palm website,are in reality independent itentities of a synchronization software group.Technically, Palm Desktop is the desktop Personal Information Manager (PIM) that keeps track of your Calendar, Contacts, To Do List, Memos and other records. HotSync Manager is the synchronization software that compares the information in Palm Desktop with the information on your device.
Often, when people say "Palm Desktop," they mean the Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager suite.


When you install this application from the CD or our web download, you don't install Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager separately. The installation is integral and a single process.

Though HotSync Manager is a part of Palm Desktop; it does not always have the same identity to function together. For example, a Mac OS X installation of Palm Desktop 4.2.1 may include HotSync Manager 3.2.

For easy reference, palm usually refers to the version number of the Palm Desktop application. The HotSync Manager version number in this package might be different. For daily use, take note of the Palm Desktop version number, and ignore the HotSync Manager version number.

On some occasions, palm may advise you to use a previous version of the Palm Desktop package, depending on your hand set. For example, Palm Desktop 4.01 is for use with older hand sets such as Handspring Visor organizers.
