Treo 600: Windows New Hardware Wizard requesting a USB driver while synchronizing.

The new Hardware Wizard appears when Windows cannot locate the driver that gives instructions to connect the device to the PC. A cradle has to be used. use cradle.

Let’s see how we can find a solution to this issue with different version of windows…

Windows 95 and NT :
If Windows 95 or Windows NT is in use, you can not solve the problem. To synchronize with these operating systems you have to use a serial cradle.

Other Windows versions:
For other version of the Windows operating system, you need to establish a search for the the driver software for your device. Often, all you need to do is to instruct Windows to try again. Follow the steps listed:
  1. with the New Hardware Wizard on the screen, Press the Cancel button, with the New Hardware Wizard on the screen.

  2. Restart the computer.

  3. Try HotSync procedure again.
Your problem is solved if the HotSync operation works.

If Windows launches the New Hardware Wizard again, follow these steps:
  1. Select the button  A table of all the drivers in a specific location or Browser appears.

  2. Select one of the following:

    • VisorUsb.inf  OR

    • PalmUsb.sys but not PalmUSBD.sys

      in one of these location:

    • C:\Program Files\palmOne\Drivers Or

    • C:\Program Files\Palm\Drivers OR

    • C:\Program Files\Handspring\Drivers OR

    • C:\Windows\inf.

            Press Next.

  3. Allow the Wizard to complete the run and try a HotSync operation.
             If the New Hardware Wizard persists:
  1. Launch Windows Explorer.

  2. Navigate to the driver you found.

  3. Right Click on the file.

  4. Select Install.

  5. Try another HotSynch operation.
             If the problem persists, then follow these steps:
  1. Uninstall the Palm Desktop software.

  2. Restart the computer.

  3. Re-install Palm Desktop.

  4. Restart the computer.

  5. Try HotSync operation.
The problem is sorted now.
