Palm: Troubleshoot HotSync

After pressing the HotSync tab on your Palm device's cable/cradle, HotSync window opens on your desktop. If HotSync window does not open, it means that your desktop is not responding to your Palm Device. To solve this, perform each of the steps below. After each step, try to sync.


This article walks you through every issue that you may face during the process. You  need to go through the Palm's user guide if you are using it for the first time.

Note:These solutions are for HotSync software provided by Palm only.For any other third party synchronization software, like IntelliSync, iSync, Missing Sync etc. consult the third party developer for help.


If you are using Windows Vista operating system, then you have to check for suitability with vista before installing HotSync. Click here for more information.
 


If you are using Microsoft Outlook 2007, then you have to Download Outlook 2007 Update. This update adds HotSync conduits that are suitable with Outlook 2007 and allows you to sync with your Palm OS device. For Outlook 2003, Outlook 2002, and previous versions, this software is not needed.
 


Switch ON HotSync Manager application before you synchronize. HotSync Manager application needs to be running. In case you don't know know how to turn ON HotSync Manager. Click here.
 





You can solve this problem by running Soft Reset. Don't know how to perform Soft Reset? Click here.
 


You can fix this problem by detaching your Palm device from the USB HotSync cable or cradle, and attaching it again. Take care not to press the HotSync button until the device is fully attached.
 


This complication can be fixed by cleaning the connector. Check for dust or other dirt particles on the HotSync connector on your Palm device. Blow on the connector (or use an aerosol can) to remove the pieces.
 



Check the Ports to make sure that your desktop PC and Palm device are connected and running properly. Don't know how to do this? Click here.
 



Alarms,
that are set for some time in the future, may cause this problem.Select Calendar, To Do, SMS, MMS, Voicemail, E-mail for the future that are on the screen, Press"OK".
 






Check HotSync configuration to make sure that you have the right cradle/cable, and that your HotSync software is suitably configured for your connection type. Don't know how to do this? Click here.

If you are using Windows XP operating system, then go through the points listed below:
  • If you are using Windows XP Edition, then you have to check for compatibility with XP Edition before installing HotSync. Click here for more information.
  • Install the latest version of Palm Desktop software.

Type in the text of the Error Message verbatim into the Knowledge Library Search Box, and see if any answers are available.
 


You may fail to perform a HotSync operation if the USB Controller is not compatible with your computer. Click here to know whether your USB Controller and computer are compatible.

If you have an Iomega Zip drive then Download the latest driver from Iomega's website. This may provide you the solution.
 

For Mac OS 9.x and former operating systems please go through the following points:
  • You may need to enhance the memory for the Conduit Manager for Macintosh. Don't know how to do this? Click here.
  • If you use a serial cradle, then switch OFF AppleTalk in the Chooser for Macintosh.
