Palm Error Message: "The application 'HotSync Manager' could not be launched because of a shared library error: -4 [HotSync Manager][HotSync Manager][HotSyncLib.PPC][]"

Guide yourself through the steps below to overcome this error message.


This error can crop up after you've un-installed Palm Desktop for Mac and then attempted to reinstall it. This issue has been known to materialize when users upgrade from one version of Mac OS X to a later version.

You can follow the below listed steps to crack the problem:


  • Locate your user folder on your Mac.
  • Establish a copy of this folder and move it to a safer site(for example, on your Mac desktop).
  • Log off your Mac.
  • Login as the root user. If you're unsure how to do this, please consult Apple for support.
  • Put in the Palm CD, or locate the Palm Desktop file you downloaded.
  • Look for the Palm Desktop installer file.
  • While holding down the Control tab, Press Installer.
  • Select "Show Package Contents."
  • Select "Contents."
  • Select "Resources."
  • Double Click on "Install Utility."
  • If given commands, enter your Mac OS password.
  • Revert to the Palm Desktop Installer.
  • Double Click on Installer to start a normal installation procedure.
