Follow the steps below to Install/Upgrade Plam Desktop software for you Mac operating system:

Upgrade Palm Desktop Previous Version to Palm Desktop New Version:
  • Perform HotSync operation using Palm Desktop Previous Version.
  • Install Palm Desktop New Version.
  • Perform another HotSync operation before editing your data.

Uninstall Previous Versions of Palm Desktop:
  • If the Installer finds a previous version of Palm Desktop software, an alert gives you the location of the previous version.
  • Click OK to uninstall the previous version and continue to install the new version.
  • Click Cancel to Exit the Installer if any existing User Data files are kept.
Convert User Data Files:
  • During installation, User Data files created in previous versions of Palm Desktop software are copied for use with Palm Desktop new version. Those locations are:
    • For Mac OS X, User Data files are moved to a Palm folder inside the individual Mac User's Documents folder.
    • For Mac OS 9, User Data files are moved and stored in a Palm folder inside the Documents folder.
  • Your original User Data file remains in its original location (the old Palm:Users folder), but the folder is renamed "Users (Old).".
  • The first time you open Palm Desktop software and select a user in the User pop-up menu, the User Data file is converted for use with Palm Desktop new version.
Administrator Name and Password:
  • For Mac OS X, during installation procedure, you must provide an administrator name and password for your computer to complete installation procedure.
Upgrade Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X after Installing Palm Desktop New Version:
  • You can install/upgrade Palm Desktop new version on Mac OS 9 and later upgrade to Mac OS X. To do this, just follow these steps:
    • Move the Palm folder from the Mac OS 9 Documents folder to the Mac User's Documents folder in Mac OS X.
    • Run the Palm Desktop new version Installer in Mac OS X.
    • Reinstall any third party conduits (check with conduit developers for information on their plans to update their conduits for Mac OS X).
Note: You cannot install Palm Desktop software on both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X because files are stored in different locations for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, resulting in two different User Data files and potential loss of data. Due to this Palm does not recommend installing on both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, on the same computer.
