Configuring POP3 or IMAP4 Account on AT&T 8525

Learn how to configure Email settings on your Windows Mobile.

Before you go ahead and configure you phone for email, ensure you have the following from your Internet Service Provider (ISP):


To configure on your device:

1. Tap Start and choose Messaging (If not present there, navigate to Start > Programs > Messaging).
2.
Press the left soft key to choose Menu and navigate to Tools > Options and select it.
3. Tap on Accounts tab on the bottom and select New Account....
  • To delete an existing email account, tap and hold the name of the account to be deleted with the help of the stylus.  You should see a small menu pop.  Select Delete.
  • To edit an email account, tap on the email account name.
  • If the New Account option is greyed out then disconnect from Internet/GPRS.
4. From the e-mail provider drop down, select Other (POP3/IMAP) and select Next.
5. Enter the account email address and select Next.
6. After a few seconds, if you see the status as Completed, select Next.  If it doesn't then select Skip to proceed.
7. Enter the user information and select Next.
8. Enter Account information and select Next.
  • Account type:  Select POP or IMAP.  This depends upon your ISP Type.
  • Name: Just enter any name of your email, this is for your reference.
9. Enter the server information obtained from your ISP:
10. On the next screen, select the following and click Next.
  • Leave the Connect and check for messages check box unchecked.
  • Connection:  Select My ISP.
11. On the next screen, select the appropriate settings and select Next.
  • Only display messages from the last: Check this so that your device shows up only recent messages.
  • Require SSL Connection: Most of the email service provides don't use SSL so this option should be unchecked.  Only certain providers use this.
  • Outgoing e-mail server requires authentication: If you are using cwmx.com as your outgoing server then uncheck this option.
12. On the next screen, select Get message headers only from the drop down and check Include box and key in 2 in the KB box. Select Finish.
