Infrared (IrDA) on the Samsung SCH/SGH.

Check out this article to know the use of Infrared (IrDA) on the Samsung SCH/SGH.

Infrared facilitates shifting records from one infrared enabled device to another by aligning the infrared 'eye' with other devices.

Infrared technology
in cell phones is used for the following purposes:
  1. Logging on to the Internet from a laptop via your cell phone using IrDA.

  2. Relaying contact / business card / ring tones / pictures etc to another cell phone.

  3. Inducting software or backing up your data to or from a PC.
Infrared works by aligning the infrared ‘eye’ with other devices.
Before you start any exchange between your PC and your cell phone, you have to switch on the infrared (IRDA) port of your cell phone.

In cell phones there is a menu item to switch on the infrared port.

To switch on the infrared in your Samsung:

  • Go to the main Menu.
  • Press Settings.
  • Press Connectivity.
  • Click on Infrared.

After switching on the infrared port, a symbol flashes on the top left corner of the cell mobile phone. This indicates that the infrared port is switched on.

If there is no information to be shifted via the infrared,
then some phones turn off the infrared port automatically after some time.

To avoid this, ensure that
you have switched on the infrared port of your cell phone before you start any exchange between your PC and your cell phone.

Ensure that nothing comes in the way of
the infrared sensor of your PC and your cell phone. There should be barriers to communication between the two devices.

To send information from one infrared device to another:

  • Select Data and then Press Go to transfer ring tones, picture, business card, contact, etc.

  • To àOption select àsend via infrared.

  • Your information will be relayed to the other device.

To send information from an infrared device to a PC:
  • To send records and logging on to the Internet on PC, use the PC Link software that comes free with the Samsung cell phone.
