Adding Pauses that can be used for developing a dialing string on the Samsung mobile.

Read this article to know how to add pauses that can be used when developing a dialing string on the Samsung mobile.

Adding Pauses To A Contact Phone Number On the CDMA Model Phone:

There are two types of pauses which help in developing a dialing sequence.

  • A Soft Pause that adds a 2 second pause between sequences of numbers. The Soft, or Timed Pause, is denoted by the appearance of a "T" for Timed in the phone number or dialing string.

  • A Hard Pause that stops a string of numbers, requiring the Talk tab to be pressed to continue dialing the next string. A Hard Pause is denoted by the appearance of a "P" for Pause in the phone number or dialing string.
When entering a contact number in the phone book, a "T or P" is added by using the Menu key and choosing either Hard (P) or Timed (T).

To dial a number and add a Hard (P) or Timed (T) Pause:
  • First Dial the number and  Press the Menu button.
  • Choose either Hard or Timed Pause.
  • Complete the sequence of numbers.

Most people use the Hard and Soft Pauses to connect to Voice Mail or Banking Systems. These pauses enable you to mechanize your security or pass codes linked with your voicemail or stock accounts.

Example of a Soft or Timed Pause (T):

When your dial your home Voice Mail, the answering machine takes the call. The # key is pushed down and the password is entered. With pauses, the phone number can be added to your phone book with all the key strokes necessary. Here's how it should look:
555-555-1212TTTTT#TT5555
This example adds 10 seconds (T = 2 seconds / 5T x 2 = 10 seconds) after the number has been dialed to let the phone ring and the answering system to respond.  It sends the DTMF tone for "#", and the sequence waits for another 4 seconds (2T x 2 seconds = 4 seconds) to allow the system to be ready to receive the DTMF tones for your password.

Example of a Hard pause (P):

The Hard Pause in which an answering system responds after 2 rings when there are new messages available.

If there are no messages, the system will take longer to respond. If the example given above is in use, it is impossible to know whether you have new messages or not. Hence, the use of the Hard Pause might be more appropriate.  Here's how it should look:
555-555-1212P#TT5555
This example adds the Hard Pause after the number has been dialed. Press the Talk or Send tab to continue with the preset DTMF string.

It sets the DTMF tones for # and waits 4 seconds to let the system prepare to receive DTMF tones for password.

The use of a Hard Pause gives you the facility to:
  • Wait for the four seconds (two rings) it takes to indicate new messages on your answering system, Press Talk or Send to preset DTMF string and Press "End" to disconnect the call or,
  • To let it continue ringing past the second ring, indicating there are no new messages, Press the Talk or Send tab to send the # and password.
