Sending Personalised Ringtones using Infrared and MMS on your Sony Ericsson W810i

Check out this article for sending Ringtones using Infrared and MMS.

In [MY SOUNDS] the icons next to the ring sounds identify whether or not they are a polyphonic or e or i-Melody formats:

    - e, and i-Melody ring sound types are identified by one note. These formats play only one
note at a time and are simpler sounds. These formats are the types of rings traditionally
       heard on a mobile phone.
    - Midi Files – (using the Polyphonic sound type ) are identified with a two-note icon.
Polyphonic (Midi) ring sound types play several tones simultaneously – making a more
       musical sound.

SENDING MELODY FORMATS: One can send polyphonic ring sounds using only Infrared or MMS, while one can send i/e melody ring sounds using all three transmission methods. However, the sounds must be stored in the phone before sending.

Send ringtones to contacts via MMS using these steps:
  •  From the Standby screen, press the joystick to the right to view the Menu options
  •  Select [FUN & GAMES]
  •  Scroll to and select [MY SOUNDS]
  •  Highlight the polyphonic or non-polyphonic ring sound that you would like to send, and press the “YES” key
  •  Select [SEND]
  •  Select [VIA MMS] or [VIA INFRARED]
  •  Follow any message prompts.

NOTE1: In order to use infrared, you must first activate it in [CONNECT] > [INFRARED PORT] > (Choose either [ON] or [10 MIN] option which only turns the feature on for 10 minutes). Then, once you have chosen [VIA INFRARED] as the transmission device, you have to align the receiving device so that the infrared beams can transfer. For best results, place the infrared beam within 1 meter, and at a 30 degree angle to the infrared port (on the other phone or PC/PDA). Do not direct the infrared ray at anyone's eye and make sure that it does not disturb any other infrared units. The connection is not affected by sunlight, fluorescent light, or electromagnetic fields.

NOTE2: Sending sounds via MMS or SMS is network dependent and may not be supported in all areas. Please contact your service provider regarding availability in your area.
