Sony Ericsson w810i: Can I use my device as a Bluetooth modem with my PC?

Check out this article to get the solution to your query.

1. Ensure that you have your GPRS or GSM network operator and/or service provider
membership details on hand before you start entering settings.

To access the Internet with your phone as a modem, you need:

  • A phone subscription that supports data capability and a correctly set data account for access to an Internet server (for more information, contact your service provider).
  • Internet settings for your phone. These settings may already be entered when you buy the phone or you can enter them manually. The simplest way is to receive the settings from your service provider in a text message or use the Phone Setup for WAP at www.SonyEricsson.com/support.

2. The Bluetooth device in the computer must be installed (see the manufacturer’s product
documentation) and functioning properly before you start the installation procedure.

3. Once you have the correct settings fed into the phone, you need to check that
PC Suite is installed on your PC. To install PC Suite you can:

  • Install PC Suite with the CD that comes with the phone
  • Download PC Suite via the web from www.sonyericsson.com/support.

4. After you install PC Suite:

    A. To connect your device to a PC via Bluetooth:

  • Phone: Switch on Bluetooth: (Go to SETTINGS and Select CONNECTIVITY. Select BLUETOOTH and Press TURN ON).
  • Computer: If necessary, Switch on the Bluetooth
  • Computer: Double-click on the Bluetooth icon in the system tray.
  • Computer: Select View Devices in Range.
  • Computer: Right-click on the icon with your phone’s name and select Pair Device.
  • Computer: Enter a Password (choose one or more digits) and Click on OK.
  • Phone: When “Add to My devices?” shows select “Yes”.
  • Phone: Enter the same Password you entered earlier and Press “OK”.
  • Computer: Double-click on the icon with your phone’s name.
  • Computer:  Double-click on the Serial Port icon.
  • Phone: When “Allow?” shows, Click on “Yes” and then Select “Always allow”.
  • Computer: Click on “OK”.

B.Once you have the Bluetooth device setup on your PC and phone, you need to setup
the Dialup Networking Parameters within PC Suite by developing a profile for internet
      access.

  • Open the Mobile Networking Wizard within the Sony Ericsson PC Suite application.

  • Select New Connection... in the Mobile Networking Wizard.

  • Mobile Networking Wizard: Select either Packet Data or CSD (contact your carrier for   which type you should use) and Click on "Next" to continue.
  • Mobile Networking Wizard: Be sure “Show all Modems” is checked and select “W810i
USB WMC Data Modem” and Click on "Next" to continue.
  • Mobile Networking Wizard:  Name your connection and Click on "Next" to continue.
  • Mobile Networking Wizard: Click on "Next".
  • Mobile Networking Wizard: Be sure Automatic Mode is selected and from the drop
down box, Select your service provider and Click on "Next" and then on "Finish" to close the wizard

  • To connect to the Internet, Select the connection just created and Click on the "Connect" icon (a green box) in the Mobile Networking Wizard.
