Sony Ericsson W810i: Installing Infrared.

Simple steps for installing infrared on your Sony Ericsson W810i! Read on..

INFRARED

There are three ways by which the computer can be set
before beginning the installation of a modem over Infrared. :

1. If you are using Windows 2000 SP2 or Windows XP SP1 for your PC, the infrared will work over IRCOMM and can easily be checked in (phone connection link). It will be automatically
searched for in the phone monitor options.

2. If you are using Windows 98 for your PC, Windows ME (Windows 2000 and Windows XP also depending on service packs), there is a virtual serial port in Device Manager for the infrared port.

3. If neither of the above is present, ensure that you install the latest service packs for Windows and try again.

General Steps:

1.Ensure that the phone and PC are placed at a 30 degree angle to each other and that both are switched on.
  • If using a P800 or P900, use the phone as the modem:
  • In Application View, Click on CONTROL PANEL.
  • Press the CONNECTION tab and Select INFRARED.
  • Set the Infrared Status to MODEM and Select ON.
  • Press DONE.
2. Ensure that there is no other application running in the PC that might disturb the connection.

3. Check whether your phone has the drivers or not.
  • If you have installed a suitable software for the phone, the modem drivers should be in the Windows drivers database and easily installed.
  • If not, install the suitable software (e.g. T68i needs either "XTNDConnect PC" or "Mobile Modem Settings and Modem drivers" and P900 needs "PC Suite for P900").

Install Infrared modem if alt. 1.

1.   Reinstall with the correct drivers by:
  • Go to Start menu and Click on Settings and Click on Control Panel ( view it in category mode).
  • Press Phone and modem options and Click on Modems.
  • Click and Open the properties for "Standard modem over Infrared-link" and reinstall the drivers.
  • Select the option "Don't detect my modem, I will select it from a list". Use  drivers that are compatible with your phone model.
2.  If any Ericsson or Sony Ericsson software is installed on the computer, make ensure that
they don't try to access the Infrared.

3. The phone should now be working as a modem.

Install Infrared modem if alt. 2.

1. Check what type of virtual COM port the Infrared uses by:
  • Go to Start menu, Click on Settings and Click on Control Panel ( view it in category mode).
  • Press System, view the tab "Hardware" and Press the Device Manager button
(if  you are using the older O/S, the "Device Manager" tab is found directly in
      "System").
  • Click on the "Ports, COM and LPT" and try to make a note of the virtual COM the Infrared uses.
2. Ensure that there is no other running application that may disturb the connection.

  • If you are using a P800/P900, or if you have the software installed on the PC, Click on Phone connection link icon (M-router) by the PC clock and uncheck Infrared.
  • If you are using T39m/T68i/T610/T630/Z600/Z1010/K700/K500/F500/Z520 or if you have that software installed on the PC, Click on Control panel on the PC and Phone monitor options.
  • Go to COM ports and make sure that the virtual COM-port is not reserved.
3. Press Phone and modem options in the Control panel.

4. Install the new modem. Use the Infrared COM port as the modem port. Select the option "Don't detect my modem, I will select it from a list". Use drivers that are compatible to your phone model.
