BlackBerry Internet Service Overview
BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) pushes received emails on to your handheld. It has an ability to integrate 10 email accounts at once. The following are some advantages of having it.
Emails are easier to setup:
- You can configure your e-mail either from your handheld or by accessing the BlackBerry Internet Service website using your computer. The new process is very intuitive and BIS automatically determines the type of e-mail account you are configuring and integrates it the best way.
- An e-mail account will be created by default by BlackBerry Internet Service 1.8 and creating a BlackBerry e-mail address for BlackBerry Internet Service 2.3 is optional.
- You can open popular format attachments and view PowerPoint presentations in an easy-to-use slide show format etc.,
- You can attach files up to 3mb to an e-mail or MMS messages. (Note: For uploading 3 mb you need BlackBerry handheld firmware version 4.2 or higher).
- You can easily integrate upto 10 personal and/or business e-mail accounts on your BlackBerry phone. Each account can be configured seperately in terms of send from address, signatures etc.,
- Each e-mail account will have a seperate inbox on your BlackBerry device.
- All the accounts can be managed from your handheld. No need of using a computer.
- There is no limit on e-mail storage wih the BlackBerry Internet Service version 2.3 accounts. The BlackBerry e-mail address never gets full with automated 30-day Auto-Aging. If your ISP has some storage limits then that will apply.
Note: BlackBerry Internet Service stores all the received e-mail messages on the BlackBerry Internet Service server for 30 days. After that, the server automatically deletes the email message. They will still be on your handheld but you cannot reply or forward those emails.
- BIS provides real-time synchronization with your Handheld and Yahoo account. When you delete an email on your web based Yahoo account, that e-mail is automatically deleted on your Handheld too and vice versa and when you read an email on your Yahoo account on your Handheld, it is automatically marked as read on your web based account.
- You need not enable POP on your Gmail account before you integrate it with your BlackBerry handheld. Gmail messages are delivered in real-time now.
- Different icons appear for different integrated e-mail accounts. Just click on each icon to view mails from that account.
- You can open electronic contact attachments (vCard format) using your BlackBerry. You can directly add these contact to the BlackBerry Address Book.
- If you get a voicemail message from your work or home, it is sent to you as an e-mail attachment in mp3 or WAV format and you can listen to these messages on your blackberry. (Please note that size limit is only 500 KB for a voice message).
So how do you like this...!
