There is a gap between songs when I listen to the songs on my ipod

You mean the songs are not blended (there is always a break)!. This article has a solution to this problem.

Well, this really isn't a problem, as such. It is the way the iPod is designed, so your iPod is not broken.

When Apple released iTunes 7.0, they included support for "gapless playback"
(finally). So if you upgrade your iTunes, albums that have no gaps or breaks between songs (like live albums) will play properly.  If you have updated to iTunes 7.0 or later and you still get the gaps, make sure the Crossfade feature is turned off.

As for your iPod, only certain versions of iPod support gapless playback:
iPod nano (2nd Generation), 5th Generation iPod, 5th Generation iPod (Late 2006).
