Setting up your wireless D-Link DI-624 for two computers
Scenario
A wireless broadband provider that connects through USB(not Ethernet available). Setting up Di-624 router and wireless network adapter as per the manual with the exception that it call for use with only an Ethernet dsl/cable to be plugged in to the router, which the broadband provider does not support. you can share files between the two computers, but can't access the internet from the the main computer unless the LAN connection is disabled. How to share the internet through the router.
Solution
Here's what to do:
[DI-624] - Your router
[WISP] - Your Wireless Service Provider's hardware
[COMP#1] - Wired Computer
[COMP#2] - Wireless Computer
Step 1: Reconfigure the DI-624 to act as a wireless AP and ethernet switch
Connect with COMP#1 to the DI-624 and make the following configuration adjustments:
HOME / DHCP - Turn the DHCP server off
TOOLS / MISC - Turn the UPnP feature off
HOME / LAN - Change the IP address for the DI-624 to 192.168.0.199
Step 2: Reconfigure the network topology
Connect as follows:
[WISP]-usb-[COMP#1]-to_lan_port-[DI-624]
... [WISP]-usb-[COMP#1] ... as you always have
... [COMP#1]-to_lan_port-[DI-624] ... leaving the WAN port empty
Make sure COMP#1 can surf on the internet.
Step 3: Configure XP Internet Connection Sharing on [COMP#1]
See »www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/ <http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/> for a guide. When you get to this page ( »www.practicallynetworked.com/sha···rwiz.htm <http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/serverwiz.htm> ), the USB connection to the WISP equipment will be your connection to the internet. Your LAN card that leads to the DI-624 will be your (local) network connection.
Step 4: Configure [COMP#2]
Configure your wireless computer according to normal wireless instructions using automatic addressing. There is nothing special here.
Make sure COMP#2 can surf on the internet.
Now your network looks like this:
[WISP]-usb-[COMP#1]-to_lan_port-[DI-624] ) ) ) [COMP#2]
WHAT THIS MEANS:
Because of your WISP's modem, it must be connected to COMP#1. Fortunately, COMP#1 can provide the Router, Firewall and DHCP functions for your network using the Internet Connection Sharing feature. To allow this, we have to disable those features in the DI-624 and enable them in COMP#1. All of the wireless features of the DI-624 are still available, and all of the LAN ports may be used to increase your network as well.
To reach the configuration menu for the DI-624, use the address »192.168.0.199 <http://192.168.0.199>. We had to change it to this address because Internet Connection Sharing uses the same default IP as the DI-624.
Hope this will help you
