Accessing SBC DSL modem and router (Generic)

To access SBC DSL modem and router, here's what you should do:

Symptom

I have a SBC DSL and a Speedstream 4100 modem. I am using a router. PPPoE is on the modem. I can't seem to access the modem statistics on 192.168.0.1. I set my router address to 192.168.0.2 to try to avoid a conflict. But I still can't see it.  How to set up my network so that I can configure both the modem and router?

Solution

Have a look at the images below

Settings

SpeedStream 4100 - PPPoE on the modem, use public IP address.
Netgear FR114P - WAN setting is "Obtain IP automatically from ISP."
Netgear
FR114P - LAN setting is IP address 192.168.102.1
LAN IP address subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

Use DHCP for the LAN; MAC filtering on the Netgear allows me to keep the same IP address on each connected device. In both networks the LAN devices use the modem as the DNS server.
