Setting up DI-624 and CISCO827

Di-624 Needs to be added to Cisco827 in DSL PPPoA. Cisco box doesn't have a firewall and port translation is limited. Thought that I could connect the LAN cable from the CISCO router into the WAN slot of the Di-624 but If I connect my laptop, I can browse the net as DHCP is on.

Symptom

Di-624 WAN port is set to receive the address from the ISP but when I connect the two boxes di-624 keeps on saying that doesn't receive any address from the (fake) ISP.  Tried with a static address in the CISCO subnet (192.168.0.253/ 255.255.255.0) but it says "this is not a valid WAN address".

Can I use di-624 as a Firewall between CISCO827 and the network switch?

Solution

To use the Di-624 as a second Router with Firewall you have to assign two different networks to LAN and WAN side of the router.  So if your cisco uses the network 192.168.0.x ; 255.255.255.0 first assign the LAN side of the DI for example the network 192.168.1.x ; 255.255.255.0

Then it should work with both types of WAN setting - dynamic or static.
