Problem with the expander WRE54G v.1 communicating with WRT54GS v.5

Symptom

I am having a problem getting the expander (WRE54G v.1) to communicate with the router (WRT54GS v.5). I have given a reset to all devices in order that all security is disabled and all default settings are applied. I have updated the software on the router to 1.50.8 which is the latest upgrade available. The Expander firmware is at 1.06.05 also the latest available on the linksys download site.  The router is set up as a "Gateway" as it is the only AP.

I get to the final instruction to confirm the IP address, subnetmask, Gateway, etc. then select YES. I eventually get an error window..."WRE54G can not associate with the AP in the repeater mode"... The LED's on the Expander are POWER: Red LINK: Blue

Solution

Upgrade the firmware version and it should take care of the expander's issue.
