Is Gameboy Advanced backward compatible with Gamecube?

Gameboy Advanced contains the CPU of the GBC and so is 100% compatible with all old DMG and GBC games.

Yes, it contains the CPU of the GBC so it is 100% compatible with all old DMG and GBC games. Some game do have small sound problems but all  games play 100% perfectly.  Also, the GBA has a wider screen so old games can either be formatted  with borders or stretched to fill the screen by pressing the shoulder  buttons.
